Washington Spirit and Gotham FC will lock horns on Saturday night in the 2025 NWSL Finals at PayPal Park. Washington will make another appearance in the finals after losing to Orlando Pride 1-0 in last year's showdown. They were not convincing in the quarterfinals after needing a 3-1 penalty shootout win to send out Racing Louisville. However, the 2021 champions bounced back in the semifinals to defeat Portland Thorns 2-0, booking their place in the finals.
Gotham FC is another team with lots of experience in this competition. They failed to defend their title last season after losing 2-1 to the Thorns in the quarterfinals. Gotham FC concluded the 2025 regular season with a disappointing run, having won just one of their last five games. However, they turned things around in the playoffs to defeat the favorites, KC Current and Orlando Pride. Those results should earn them respect from Washington this weekend.
