In his past six starts, Irvin has allowed four runs or more on four occasions, and when he did keep the opposition in check, the Nats’ bats exploded anyway to cash the over.
Runs haven’t exactly been at a premium when Bailey Falter pitches either. In his past four trips to the mound, the only time he both pitched into the sixth inning and gave up less than four runs was a win over Seattle. He hasn’t been getting strikeouts other than that Seattle game, and when he pitches to contact, it often leads to baserunners.
