The Washington Nationals (55-68 SU, 68-55 ATS) continue their series with the Philadelphia Phillies (72-50 SU, 61-61 ATS), who have used this weekend to get healthy off Washington. Philadelphia has now won 17 of 20 against Washington at Citizens Bank Park, including all five of their meetings this season. The Nats are at least somewhat competitive in the District, but when they come up Interstate 95, they’ve been cannon fodder.
MacKenzie Gore at least gives the Nats a chance to compete, as he has pitched well against Philadelphia this season. He was the winning pitcher in April against Philadelphia when the teams met in Washington, and he pitched 6.1 solid innings at Citizens Bank Park before the bullpen lost the game in the 10th. However, Gore seems to be succumbing a bit to his team’s issues: his past seven outings have all seen at least three runs score against him. Last time wasn’t his fault, as all five runs were unearned, but for the most part, he’s been responsible.
