The Washington Nationals (55-67) will look to avoid yet another losing streak on the season Friday evening in Philadelphia against the Phillies (71-50). This will be the 2nd game of the series after the Phillies dominated in game 1. Philadelphia jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the 1st inning on the back of Alec Bohm’s 3-run homer followed by Nick Castellanos’s solo shot. Zach Wheeler pitched 6 innings and struck out 6 while holding the Nats to just 1 run on 3 hits. Weston Wilson, part-time outfielder, went 4-5 for the Phillies and hit for the cycle. Time will tell if this offensive explosion can finally turn things around for a Philadelphia team that has been on the struggle bus ever since the all-star break. A win tonight, will give the Phillies a win streak that will counter the 4-game losing skid they were on before it started. Patrick Corbin (2-12, 5.98) will be the starter for the Nats and he will have his hands full. He faced the Phillies back in April and made it 6 innings but allowed 4 runs on 9 hits in the loss. For the Phillies, they will have Aaron Nola (11-6, 3.60) on the hill. Nola has not been great in his last two starts. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings against the Dodgers and then was knocked around for 9 hits and 3 runs by the Diamondbacks in his last start. He has faced the Nats twice this season and has held them to 2 runs and 4 hits over 12.2 innings of work while striking out 9.
