The Washington Nationals (49-50, 29-19 Away) will try to get back to .500 today when they face the Athletics in the third game of their weekend series. First Pitch at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, CA, is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. EST. Coverage will be provided by MLB.TV.
Washington took Game 1 of the series on Friday in explosive fashion, beating up the A’s pitchers for 23 runs (final score: 23-4). But the Athletics returned the favor in Saturday’s game, beating the Nationals 15-1.
The Nationals will hope for a much better performance on the mound with Foster Griffin scheduled to start. Griffin has gone 10-2 in 19 starts with a 2.77 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. He is as deadly on the road as he is at home. In ten road starts, he has gone 5-1 with a 2.79 ERA and a .193 OBA. Griffin has not allowed more than one run in each of his last seven starts.

Griffin has been consistently one of the better pitchers in the league lately, and it is doubtful the A’s will light him up. Lopez, however, it would be more of a surprise if the Nationals did not light him up. If you are the cautious type, take the Washington ML, but the Nationals will win this one by 2+ runs.
