In the very recent series between the Mets and Nationals in Washington, they ended up dividing games. Irvin and Quintana, who will start game 1 on Tuesday, faced each other in the last of the series between the Nationals and Mets, that game ended 1-0 in Irvin's best start of 2024 where he pitched 8 innings, struck out 8 and He only allowed 1 hit. It was an absolute pitching duel as Quintana pitched 7 innings without allowing runs. 

The young Nationals lineup has had problems facing left-handed pitchers who in 2024 only average 3.7 runs per game and just 0.2 HR.

In June and July the Mets improved their run average at City Field, now averaging a solid 5.3 runs per game.
