The Atlanta Braves (65-45, 34-20 Home) will try to make it three in a row over their NL East rivals, the Washington Nationals, in this four-game series they are hosting at Truist Park. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. EST with coverage provided by MLB.TV.
Atlanta has been a solid home team this season, going 34-20 at Truist Park. So, it wasn’t shocking to see them win the series opener on Thursday, 5-4, or to win yesterday, 6-2. However, Washington is 32-22 on the road and shouldn’t be overlooked.
But the Nats will not exactly be putting their best foot forward with Miles Mikolas getting the start. The veteran righty is 3-7 this season in 22 appearances and nine starts, with a 5.65 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. He has yet to record a win on the road (0-4), where he has a 5.29 ERA and a .281 OBA.
The Braves are expected to go with Reynaldo Lopez to start the day. Lopez, who is listed as a reliever, has a 3.64 ERA in 24 appearances and 11 starts with a 1.34 WHIP. At home, he has posted a 3.79 ERA with a .230 OBA.

Neither lineup has been explosive in this series, but Washington has hit better over the last week (.260 to .227). But the Nats have the edge at the plate, scoring 28 runs in six games while the Braves managed just 20. However, the Braves have the edge on the mound. Nikolas is unreliable; he allowed 5+ runs in four of his last ten starts but allowed zero in four as well. But Washington will not let him go deep, which may actually be their downfall since the bullpen has one of the highest ERAs in baseball (4.78). Atlanta will not let Lopez go deep either. They’ll pull him at the first sign of trouble and hand the game over to the bullpen, which has one of the lowest ERAs in MLB (3.69).
It’s a risky play, but at +112 it’s a solid value play.
