Washington broke out of a three-game slump yesterday in the opener, exploding for 14 runs, tying a season-high for runs in a single game. With the pitching staff limiting the home team to a single run, it was an easy win for the Nationals.
Arizona will task Eduardo Rodriguez with quieting the Washington lineup today. Rodriguez is 5-1 in 12 starts with a 2.24 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He has been almost lights out at home, where he is 3-0 in six starts with a 1.34 ERA and has held opponents to a .175 BA.
Zach Littell is scheduled to start the day for the Nationals on the mound. So far this season, he is 5-4 in 12 starts with a 5.01 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. He has gone 1-2 in five appearances on the road (two starts) with a 4.74 ERA and a .273 OBA.

This is a tough one to pick because of the odds. I can’t see why the D-backs are favored like they are. I get it; the home team usually has an edge, and they have a solid pitcher on the mound today. It helps that Washington’s starter is unimpressive on his best day. But Arizona has been struggling to make contact with the ball, hitting .182 and averaging just over two runs a game. I can’t recommend that team to win outright (no value) or against the spread. At the same time, I have serious doubts about the Nats hitting well against Rodriguez. That narrows my betting options down to one thing.
