In a Metropolitan Division matchup, the Washington Capitals will look to rebound from a heavy defeat on Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center.
Spencer Carbery’s team entered the holiday break on the back of a 7-3 defeat to the New York Rangers. Washington has been rock-solid at the back for most of the campaign, but the defense completely collapsed on Tuesday, allowing five third-period goals.
The Capitals are currently going through their worst stretch of the season, losing six of their last seven games, including each of the last three. Another defeat on Saturday would give Washington only its second four-game losing streak since the start of last season.
The Devils have also struggled recently, producing only four wins in December. However, things should improve for them going forward now that Jack Hughes is back in the lineup. Before returning last Sunday against the Buffalo Sabres, Hughes missed over a month of action due to a hand injury.
Since Hughes returned, New Jersey has managed just two goals in two games. However, with him back in the lineup, the team’s offensive production is bound to improve soon. The American star is averaging over a point per game for the season, boasting 11 goals and 10 assists through 19 appearances.

Our New Jersey Devils vs Washington Capitals Prediction
Wins have been rare for the Capitals lately, and the Christmas break came at a good time for the team. It gives Carbery’s troops a chance to do some soul-searching and reset. Only a few weeks ago, Washington enjoyed a 9-1-0 run, which shows that they remain a top-class team.
New Jersey hasn’t scored more than two goals in five consecutive games, and you won’t win many games in the NHL without scoring at least three times, especially when coming up against the league’s greatest ever goal-scorer.
Our prediction for Washington Capitals vs. New Jersey Devils: Capitals to win.
