After winning a women’s doubles match with her legendary partner Serena Williams, Victoria Mboko tries to advance into the quarterfinals of the 2026 HSBC Championships against former Wimbledon Open finalist Karolina Pliskova.
Kicking off her second grass-court swing since turning pro, Mboko opened as a -198 favorite against the more seasoned Pliskova. Last year, Mboko compiled a 3-2 record on the surface, having reached the second round of the 2025 Wimbledon Open as a lucky loser. In just a year, Mboko has worked her way to becoming a legit top-10 player and one of the hottest rising stars on the WTA Tour.
Ranked No.106th in the world, Pliskova advanced to the second round at Queens with a three-set win over McCartney Kessler 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. Pliskova and Kessler produced 14 breakpoint conversions in their match, but the former world’s No.1 delivered in the clutch with 3 clutch breaks in the deciding set.
On paper, Mboko looks like an easy pick to win because of her youth and reputation as the world’s No.9 player in the world rankings. However, Pliskova boasts an impressive 66-35 record on grass and 39 wins over top-10 players. This will not be a walk in the park for Mboko.
