The Carolina Hurricanes (32-15-5, 18-8-2 Home) return home Thursday night, January 29, to host the Utah Mammoths (28-21-4, 13-14-2 Away) at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, NC. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m. EST, with coverage provided by ESPN+.
Carolina hasn’t played at home since last Thursday night, when they faced the Chicago Blackhawks, a game they lost 4-3 in a shootout. But the Metropolitan Division-leading Hurricanes did not need long to get back on the right side of the scoreboard, beating the Senators in Ottawa on Saturday 4-1. As for the Mammoth, the New Year has been kind to Utah. They ended 2025 with a 4-3 loss to Nashville, dropping their record to 18-19-3. Since the calendar turned to 2026, they’ve gone 10-2-1. In their last game on Tuesday, they got back on the right side of the scoreboard after their 2-0 loss to Tampa Bay, beating Florida 4-3.
This game will be just the third all-time between Utah and Carolina. The Mammoth won at home vs. the Hurricanes last season 4-1, but lost in Raleigh 7-3. Carolina is tied with Detroit for the second-best record in the Eastern Conference. With 60 points, Utah is a long way from Colorado, the best team in the West, but leads the wild-card race in the conference.

Utah has been playing well and will likely put up a solid fight against a very good Carolina team playing on its home ice. Since the Mammoth have been playing well, I do not feel comfortable laying the points. But I do not see Utah beating a very good Carolina team that is also playing well.
