As part of their preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be played on home soil, the US boys went to work against the South home Koreans over the weekend, but their assignment, designed to build momentum, was not a succesful one. Despite having advantage, Mauricio Pochettino's men came unstuck against a rather disciplined and very useful outfit, losing by two goals to zero. They are now up against the Japanese, who also won't be easy to get the better of, as the Mexicans recently found out. Can the Stars and Stripes bounce back and begin to build some confidence ahead of what is going to be a huge year for American soccer?
The Japanese players will also be looking to build some momentum ahead of the World Cup, which is exactly what they did by holding the Mexicans to a 0-0 tie last time out. Playing on US soil in California, the team known as Blue Samarai dug deep to not only fend off El Tri but to be the better team, creating the better openings. Such a result should act as a platform from which to build.

At the end of the day, the result was a disappointing, but we can't say that Pochettino's men failed to create against the South Koreans, so much so that they ought to fancy themselves to score here. At the other end of the field, though, there could be more problems for the hosts, who looked very weak on the break last time out. which doesn't bode well given that the Japanese definitely threated on the counter against Mexico, despite failing to score.
