Udinese is currently in fourth place in Serie A, with AC Milan, their opponent of the week, just one point behind in fifth place. The Friuli-based club has had an ambitious start to the season and is only two points behind the leading duo of Napoli and Juventus Turin. Unbeaten since July 23 and a friendly defeat to Al-Ahli Dubai (1-3), Udinese has just picked up six points in the last two league games in Lombardy against Inter Milan (1-2) and away to newly promoted Pisa (0-1) after the international break. It would have been a perfect start to the season had it not been for a draw against Hellas Verona (1-1) on the opening day, a week after qualifying for the Italian Cup against Carrarese (2-0).

AC Milan have had a similar start to Udinese, with the Rossoneri winning their Italian Cup match against Bari (2-0) before dropping points on the first day of Serie A against newly promoted Cremonese (1-2) on August 23. This poor performance was quickly forgotten, as Modric's teammates, who scored one goal and provided one assist in three league games, went on to take six points away from the modest Lecce team (0-2) and against Bologna (1-0) last weekend. This trip to Friuli could prove more complicated than expected for the Milan club, which is keen to make it three wins in a row.
