Tottenham and Atletico Madrid will clash for the second time in just over a week on Wednesday evening. Given the poor season that they’re experiencing, the hosts could probably do without their current UEFA Champions League commitments, which is just as well, as they’re highly likely to be exiting the competition at this juncture.
As you would expect from a team struggling to stay above the EPL relegation zone, Spurs found visiting Metropolitano Stadium all too much last week. They were three goals behind inside 20 minutes, eventually losing by five goals to two. As a result of that rather displeasing first-leg display, the team from North London now has a mountain to climb. Will they climb that mountain? Or will their Spanish opponents make light work of getting the job done? The latter seems the most likely outcome.

Tottenham - Atletico Madrid: Form Analysis
Prior to their visit to the Spanish capital of Madrid, the Tottenham boys, who are now being coached by Igor Tudor, had been floundering. They’d lost five games on the spin, conceding an awful lot of goals, and there was a clear lack of defensive confidence on display. Following last week’s defeat, Tudor’s men did tighten up away at Anfield, tying 1-1, though it must be said that they faced an out-of-sorts Liverpool team, so perhaps we shouldn’t read too much into that seemingly positive result.

The Atleti boys went into the first leg off the back of shifting through the gears to beat Real Sociedad in LaLiga, scoring three goals in the process, so it wasn’t surprising to see Diego Simeone’s men playing confident soccer of a front-footed nature. At the weekend, they delivered a more low-key display against city rivals Getafe, winning by a goal to zero. Something similar will surely suffice here.

Tottenham & Atletico Madrid Squad Analysis
It’s no secret that there’s an injury crisis at Spurs right now. Thankfully, this has alleviated somewhat, with Igor Tudor now able to select both Dominic Solanke and Richarlison, the latter of which delivered a very good performance at the weekend. Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall and Mohammed Kudus remain out, though, as does Joao Palhinha, leaving Spurs significantly weakened in the middle. Captain Cristian Romero is another absentee.
Fortunately, the visitors have no other personnel concerns at present, leaving Simeone free to select what is pretty much his best XI.
For the visitors, first-choice keeper Jan Oblak is a doubt, while Pablo Barrios, who briefly returned from the bench during the first leg, is again out with a muscle injury. Fortunately, the visitors have no other personnel concerns at present, leaving Simeone free to select what is pretty much his best XI.

Our Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
Richarlison looked hungry for goals as Spurs took on Liverpool at Anfield at the weekend, and by scoring late in the game, the Brazilian satisfied that hunger, but do not be surprised if he's once again looking to do damage. The hosts must go for it on Wednesday, and if Richarlison turns up in the same mood as he was in on Sunday, then home goals could be on the cards.
Our Atletico Madrid vs Tottenham Pick: Richarlison to Score.
