The Toronto Maple Leafs (10-10-3) will look to move above .500 when they take on the Washington Capitals (13-9-2) on the road late Friday.
Toronto is coming off a 2-1 win over the Blue Jackets that helped them avoid another losing streak. Before the win, the Leafs had lost 7 of their previous 8 games. What had been a great start to the season has turned into many questioning if that start was just a fluke. While the Leafs are near the top in goals scored on the season (8th in NHL), they are near the bottom in goals allowed on the season (28th in NHL).
For Washington, the latter part of November has been good. They have won 5 of their last 6 games and done so by scoring a total of 29 goals during that 6-game stretch. A win here at home over Toronto would put them on another 3-game win streak. While Toronto has struggled in stopping opposing offenses, the Capitals have not, and rank 8th in the league in goals allowed on the season.
Will Toronto be able to pick things up defensively against the Capitals? Or will they continue their lackluster defensive efforts and find themselves needing to play catch-up once again?
