The Toronto Blue Jays (15-17 SU, 15-17 ATS) open a three-game series against the Washington Nationals (15-15 SU, 19-11 ATS). The Nationals have generated no momentum at home this season, going just 4-8 at Nationals Park this season. Patrick Corbin is one of the few exceptions, as he has pitched much more effectively at home than he has away.
In 11.1 innings at Nationals Park, Corbin’s ERA is a serviceable 3.18, a full five runs better than his road ERA. His most recent start at home was by far his best of the season, as he kept the Dodgers from scoring in 5.1 innings. Besides that, he hasn’t had a quality start at all this season. He has a strong tendency to walk hitters, which might be a problem against a reasonably patient Blue Jays squad.

When the Nationals give Corbin some run support, he’s able to pitch well enough for Washington to win the game. When they don’t, the results get ugly rather quickly. All four of Corbin’s defeats this season have been by at least three runs, and the Nationals haven’t scored more than two runs in any of them.
And that might make this the wrong pitching matchup for Washington: Yusei Kikuchi has pitched very well this season. He hasn’t allowed more than three runs in five of his six starts, and the one exception was the Dodgers. Toronto doesn’t score a lot in his starts, but it usually doesn’t need it. In this game, the Jays should get a good lead even if they’re held to four or five runs. Given the Nationals’ struggles at the plate, our prediction for Toronto vs. Washington is Blue Jays -1.5.
