The Toronto Blue Jays are just 1 game back of the Cleveland Guardians for the final wild card spot in the American League. Every game will be magnified as they close out the regular season. Tonight, they face the Athletics in game two of their 3-game series as their road trip begins to come to an end.

Toronto is desperate for a win tonight. They are in jeopardy of a 3-game losing streak after losing the final game of their series with the Royals and then opening up with a 6-5 loss in game one against these Athletics. Trailing 5-1 heading into the 7th inning last night, the Blue Jays rallied and cut the lead to 1 as they headed into the 9th inning. There, Andres Gimenez homered to tie things up and give the Jays a chance to force extra innings. Unfortunately, Louis Varland gave up an RBI single to Jeff McNeil, which allowed the Athletics to pick up the walk-off win.

Tonight, the Jays will throw Jose Soriano, in hopes that he can stop the bleeding and help avoid the 3-game skid. He will need to be better than he has been in his last couple of starts. He has allowed 3 or more runs in each of his last 4 starts. He will be countered by the Athletics’ Jack Perkins. He has a hefty 6.50 ERA and an ugly 3-10 record. He had been pitching better lately but is now coming off a 3-inning outing against the Mariners in which he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits while walking 5 batters.
