The Toronto Blue Jays (51-60 SU, 52-59 ATS) conclude their series with the New York Yankees (66-46 SU, 60-52 ATS) after splitting the first two games in the Bronx. The Aug. 2 loss snapped a five-game Yankee win streak, as New York has surged back into a first-place tie with Baltimore in the AL East. The Yankees have run hot and cold since the All-Star break, as they immediately came off the break by losing six of eight before getting back on track.
They now hope Gerrit Cole can get back on track after a poor showing against the Mets in his last start. Cole gutted through to the sixth inning, but he allowed six runs in a 12-3 loss. His 5.40 ERA is higher than at any point in his career, although it is a small sample size. It’s also possible that Cole just can’t pitch against the Mets, as his ERA is 11.10 against the team from Queens and 3.19 against anyone else.

Yariel Rodriguez on the road doesn’t inspire much confidence. He has his only win of the season away from Toronto, but his ERA is 5.57 in road starts and the win came against the punchless Mariners. In his last appearance at Baltimore, he was gone before the end of the first inning in an 11-5 loss to the AL East leaders.
