The Toronto Blue Jays (67-71 SU, 70-68 ATS) close out the series against the slumping Minnesota Twins (73-62 SU, 63-72 ATS). The Blue Jays, unlike a few other teams in the American League, genuinely seem to care about finishing at .500. They’ve played pretty decent baseball over the past week and half, winning seven of 10 to pull themselves to within four games of .500 and a half-game from escaping last place.
The Twins seem to be sinking under the weight of expectations as the season nears its end. Minnesota still has to hold off Boston and Seattle for the final spot in the American League playoffs, and that’s not going very well. The Twins have not won a series since beating Texas on August 17, which would make this four straight series losses if they fall short here.

Bailey Ober has actually pitched worse this year than he did in 2023, even though he’s picked up four more wins than he did. Against the Braves in his most recent start, Ober lasted just two innings, giving up nine runs in a 10-6 loss. Ober has mostly been average this season, going six innings and giving up around three runs most times.
Yariel Rodriguez has just been a mess for the Blue Jays as of late. In his past three starts, he’s allowed 15 earned runs, and five of them have been on solo home runs. He hasn’t made it past the fifth inning in any of his starts, and the Jays have done nothing but lose while he’s on the mound. Toronto has lost six straight with Rodriguez on the hill, making it very difficult to trust him. Given those issues and the Twins’ struggles with getting wins, it’s best to play the total.
