It was a high-scoring affair in game one of the series between the Milwaukee Brewers (8-8) and the Toronto Blue Jays (7-9). It was Toronto that got the win in extra innings after Vladimir Guerrero Jr doubled in a run and preceded Myles Straw’s 2-run double. The 3-run lead was won by Louis Varland, who came in and pitched the 10th.
The win allowed the Blue Jays to avoid a 3-game losing streak. They had lost their last 2 games of their series with Minnesota over the weekend. While the win was needed, the Blue Jays' play has continued to leave much to be desired for Toronto fans. They began this month with a 6-game losing streak and have since only gone 3-2. Scoring runs has been a struggle as they rank 24th in the league in that department. Combined ERA has also been on the weak side this season. Toronto carries a combined 4.79 ERA, which is bad enough for 26th in the league.
While the Blue Jays had their nasty losing streak at the beginning of the month, this Brewers team is currently in one of their own. Milwaukee has lost 6 straight games after losing last night. However, they will have Chad Patrick on the mound tonight. He has been stellar in his first starts of the season. He currently carries a 0.73 ERA and has won the only decision that he factored into.
With Patrick on the mound again here, the Brewers could be set to snap that 6-game losing streak.
