Chicago is coming into the game feeling good after completing a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday with a 7-6 victory in extra innings (F/10). Toronto, despite being the last-place team in the AL East, is feeling good after winning the series with the Astros with a 5-4 in extra innings yesterday (F/10).
Toronto will send Dylan Cease to the mound to start the day. Cease is 7-5 this season in 20 starts with a 2.41 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP; teams have hit .184 against him this season. He has been at his best when on the road, going 6-1 in nine road starts with a 1.92 ERA and a .163 OBA.
The Cubs are scheduled to go with David Peterson to start. His overall numbers have not been stellar this season as he is 6-7 in 22 appearances, with 14 appearances, a 5.52 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. He has not been at his best at home, where he is 2-4 in 11 appearances with seven starts, a 6.75 ERA, and a .299 OBA.

From a pitching perspective, the Blue Jays are the obvious choice because Cease is by far the better pitcher between the two. However, Toronto has been struggling to make contact, hitting .206 over the last week and generating just 19 runs in six games. But while Peterson’s season stats are not impressive, he has been solid in his last few starts, giving up a total of four runs. So, it is not a stretch to imagine him having a solid day against the Blue Jays. But it is more likely that a Cubs team hitting .260 over the last week could generate a couple of runs against Cease.
The Under is not a bad bet (7.5 at -104), but I see some value in the Cubs ML at +108.
