There's an all South American clash at the ATP event in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, when Thiago Agustin Tirante takes on Alejandro Tabilo. The Argentine, who is now ranked at 92 in the world, caused a bit of an upset by making it beyond Francisco Cerundolo in the previous round, though he did benefit from a slice of luck with the world number 19 clearly not being right in terms of fitness, retiring in the second set. Still, Tirante was a set up and playing well, so he should be full of confidence here.
Alejandro Tabilo had to work hard to get beyond Francesco Passaro in the last round, but work hard he did, winning in three sets. We've seen the Chilean win both the hard way and the easy way in Rio, and it's clear to see that he's looking to go deep this week. Tirante is in decent form, sure, but this still looks like a big opportunity for the world number 68. Will he take it?
