The Texas Rangers will try to get back on the right side of the scoreboard today when they face the Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle in Game Two of their three-game weekend series. Fans can follow the action once the game gets underway at 4:10 p.m. EST. Texas appeared to be in a position to win vs. Seattle for the first time this season last night when they had a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. But a two-run shot by J.P. Crawford gave the Mariners a 4-3 lead and the win over the Rangers for the fifth time this season.
The Rangers will turn to Merrill Kelly to start the day on the mound. Kelly is 9-6 in 22 starts with a 3.22 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and .206 OBA. He’s been solid on the road, going 5-3 in 11 road starts with a 3.05 ERA and .211 OBA. In his last start vs. Seattle, he threw six scoreless innings, giving up four hits and two walks while striking out seven. As for the Mariners, Luis Castillo is scheduled to start. He has gone 8-6 in 22 starts with a 3.19 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and .243 OBA. Castillo has had his best stuff at home, where he is 4-4 in 12 starts with a 2.29 ERA and .200 OBA.

I don’t know what the betting public is seeing in this game regarding the TOTAL. Yes, 7.5 is a relatively low number; seven runs were scored last night. However, with two good pitchers on the mound and two decent (on their best days) lineups, I don’t see it. Factor in the fact that both starters had sub-3.0 ERAs in July, and the best bet seems obvious to me.
