In the closest game of Friday's action, on Independence Day, the Padres defeated the Rangers 3-2 in a 10-inning game thanks to Cronenworth's walk-off single.

The Padres won, and although they had twice as many hits as the Rangers and Machado hit his 14th home run of the season, they only scored one run and left 23 players on base. However, that didn't come back to haunt them, thanks once again to the Padres' efficient bullpen, which got a decent outing from Vásquez. The combination of Adam in the eighth inning and Suarez in the ninth rarely fails, but with the game tied, they had to turn to Morejon, who pitched another scoreless inning and earned the win, his fifth of the year.

Now, Saturday's game will be on a San Diego night, with Leiter pitching for the Rangers and Kolek pitching for the Padres.
