The Texas Rangers will try to get back on the right side of the scoreboard today when they travel to Pittsburgh for a three-game weekend series vs. the Pirates at PNC Park. The first pitch for this interleague matchup is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EST.
Texas is coming off a six-game homestand that opened with a sweep of the White Sox but ended with a sweep by the Royals. Usually, a road trip is not the thing to get them back on track, as they are 13-23 in road games this season. But they’ll have Jacob deGrom taking the mound. The veteran right-hander is having a great season (6-2 in 14 starts with a 2.19 ERA and .91 WHIP). Opponents are only hitting .186 against him in road games. Pittsburgh ended a five-game losing streak with a win over the Tigers in Detroit, 8-4 F/10, last night. They’ve been a .500 team at home (19-19) and will be turning to Mike Burrows on the mound to start the day. Burrows is 1-1 in five starts with a 4.24 ERA and 25 strikeouts. Most of the damage came in his first two starts last month, where he gave up four and five runs. He has allowed three runs in his previous three starts.
