With their departure from Philadelphia, the Mets can finally move on from a series they battled to win and ultimately lost. Carlos Mendoza's team, after being in the playoff zone all year, is now only 1.5 games away from their pursuers, the Reds and Giants, who are trying to snatch the last Wild Card spot that the Queens team is barely holding onto.

Incredibly, the Mets launched a formidable rally against Luzardo in the first inning of Thursday's game against the Phillies, scoring four runs immediately. From that point on, the Phillies dominated them, and Luzardo managed to reach the 8th inning. The Phillies turned the game around against the Mets, in part thanks to a poorly read fly ball from McNeil, who let the ball sail over his head.

Once again, the Mets were unable to do anything to trouble the Phillies closer; Durán, Soto, Alonso, and Vientos all struck out, marking the Mets' sixth straight loss.

As if that weren't enough, they'll begin an exciting weekend series against the red-hot Rangers in Queens; Texas has won its last four games.

The Rangers are pitching, allowing the fewest runs per game on average in 2025.
