The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros meet again on Saturday for game two of their weekend series at Minute Maid Park. The Rangers took the series opener 7-3 on Friday night, a much-needed victory as they continue to fight for positioning in the crowded American League Wild Card race.
Texas currently sits in fourth place in the AL West, trailing the division-leading Astros by a significant margin. However, recent momentum is on their side. The Rangers have now won four of their last five contests, including that solid win over Houston to kick off the series.
Coming into this weekend matchup, Texas had just split a four-game set with the Los Angeles Angels and dropped two of three against the San Diego Padres. Despite inconsistency earlier in the week, the Rangers are showing signs of life offensively and on the mound.
The Astros, meanwhile, are in unfamiliar territory—losing. After getting swept by the Cleveland Guardians earlier this week, Houston has now dropped four straight games, including the Friday loss to Texas.
Despite this skid, the Astros still hold a six-game cushion atop the AL West and remain the most consistent team in the division. Before their current slump, Houston had swept the LA Dodgers in a statement series that reaffirmed their contender status. Their struggles against Cleveland and Texas could be just a temporary blip.

Our Houston Astros vs Texas Rangers Prediction
The Rangers turn to ace Jacob deGrom in game two, who has been a bright spot in their rotation. Over his last five starts, deGrom has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four outings, displaying the elite form that made him one of the most feared pitchers in baseball when healthy. If deGrom can deliver another strong start, the Rangers could even up the season series and stay within striking distance of a playoff spot.
Houston will send left-hander Framber Valdez to the mound in game two. Like deGrom, Valdez has limited opponents to two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts. He also leads the team with 13 quality starts and recently pitched a complete game. The Astros have won each of his last five outings, making him one of the most reliable arms in their rotation. Valdez has faced the Rangers once this year, going seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits in a win.
While the Rangers hope to claw their way back into contention, the Astros will be aiming to end their losing streak and reassert their dominance at home, where they boast a 32-18 record this season. With both teams sending hot pitchers to the mound, Saturday’s matchup promises to be a tightly contested battle. Our prediction for Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers: Astros to win.
