The No. 9 Texas Longhorns will head to the Sunshine State this weekend for a game against the Florida Gators at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, aka The Swamp, in Gainesville, FL. Kickoff for this SEC battle is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, October 4.
Neither team has played up to the expectations analysts had for either heading into the season. Texas started the season off with a 14-7 loss to Ohio State, but it isn’t the loss that has taken the luster off the Longhorns' title hopes. It’s the surprising play of the new quarterback, Arch Manning. Ohio State was expected to be tough, but he also struggled against UTEP. While he blew away San Jose State and Sam Houston State, he was supposed to. As for Florida, quarterback play (among other things) has also held the Gators back. Expectations were sky high for DJ Lagway in his sophomore season after an impressive debut in limited time during his freshman season. But he has not taken the step forward in his development that he was expected to make.
But to be fair, Lagway has had an extremely tough start to the season. Not against Long Island U in the season opener, but vs. a surprisingly good USF team, the then-No. 3 LSU Tigers and No. 4 Miami.

Texas is the likely (and popular) choice, but Manning struggled against the only good defense he has played (Ohio State). Lagway has struggled throughout the season, but in fairness, he has played a brutal schedule. However, it is unlikely that things will get easier for him against the Texas defense. If you want to pick a winner, take Texas and lay the points. But the TOTAL is the better bet.
