As things start to get serious at the ATP event in ancient city of Rome, Taylor Fritz is one of just two players to carry the flag for the US as we head into the last-16 stages. On Tuesday, Fritz will take on Grigor Dimitrov. who is currently ranked three places above the American. Both players have made pleasing starts to this tournament, winning with relative ease, but this is now a much tougher test for both, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I'll get straight to it here and say that Grigor Dimitrov looks to be receiving some disrespect from the early market. The Bulgarian is a hugely capable clay-court player, as we've seen in recent months. He has wins against the likes of Alcaraz and Zverev under his belt, while his two previous clay-court wins against Fritz should give him a nice mental edge. Those two previous wins against the American did come at altitude, while this match will be played at sea level, though Dimitrov has adapted well to Rome, so that shouldn't be an issue. Of course, Fritz is a very good player too and he's also shown some excellent clay-court form, so much so that he could easily win this, but is he really good enough to be considered quite a strong favourite against a player of Dimitrov's quality? For me, definitely not, which is why I'm siding with the higher-ranked player at generous-looking odds. Our Prediction: Grigor Dimitrov to Win.
