The Texas Rangers (70-72, 39-31 Home) will try to get back on the right side of the scoreboard today when they host the Tampa Bay Rays (84-57, 37-32 Away) at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX. Fans can follow the fun once the game gets underway at 7:05 p.m. EST.
It’s getting pretty close to crunch time for the Rangers. After losing six of their last four, they’ve fallen three games back of the Astros in the AL West and two games back for the final wild card spot. Neither deficit is insurmountable, but they need to start winning games. As for the Rays, they are firmly in control of the AL East but only have a four-game lead on the Yankees for the division title.
Jacob deGrom is scheduled to get the start for the Rangers. He is 10-9 this season in 26 starts with a 4.0 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Teams have hit .226 against him this season. But he has often been at his best at home, where he is 7-2 in 13 starts with a 2.42 ERA and a .182 OBA.
But he’ll have his hands full against Tampa Bay starter Drew Rasmussen, who is 14-5 in 26 starts with a 2.95 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP. Teams are hitting .203 against him; however, he has been better on the road (6-2 in 13 starts, 2.69 ERA), where teams have hit .196.

This is a tough one to predict. Both teams are doing a solid job at the plate in recent games (Texas: .275 BA over the last week; Tampa Bay: .256). The Rangers won Thursday, 6-0, but the Rays won last night, 7-6. Both teams have solid pitchers taking the mound, which could mean we are in for a low-scoring game. But with the total set at just seven…Since the moneyline is -108 for both teams, they must have a good shot at winning. While Texas is at home, the Rasmussen has been more consistent than deGrom. So, I have to side with the Rays.
