The Tampa Bay Rays (48-49 SU, 45-52 ATS) continue their series with the New York Yankees (59-40 SU, 53-46 ATS). The Rays seem to get the matchup they want in the series’ second game, as they’ve had their way with Nestor Cortes Jr. this season. The teams have already met 10 times in 2024, and three of Tampa Bay’s wins have come with Cortes on the hill.
Cortes also comes in struggling to get results, as he has needed to be perfect to have any success. Over his past seven starts, he’s given up a run on six occasions and the Yankees have lost all six. Most of these haven’t been his fault, as he’s held the opponent to three runs or less on five occasions. That speaks to how many struggles New York’s bullpen has had, as the Yankees continue to get leads and blow them.

Even though the Yankees have the stronger record, the Rays feel like they’re not out of this. Tampa Bay keeps picking up two wins out of three outside of one sweep at Texas’ hands, and there’s still enough time for the Rays to get hot and make themselves a factor in the AL wild card race.
Their situation with Taj Bradley has also been the opposite of the Yankees with Cortes. Bradley has seen his team emerge victorious in five of his past six starts, and he’s been one of the big reasons for his team’s success. Since a June 1 disaster against Baltimore, he’s given up just eight earned runs in seven starts and never failed to get through five innings. There’s plenty of value on the visitors here; our prediction for Tampa Bay vs. New York is for the Rays to win.
