The Miami Marlins (29-35, 18-16 Home) will host the Tampa Bay Rays (37-23, 16-14 Away) in Game 2 of a weekend series today. First Pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EST at loanDepot Park in Miami, FL, with coverage provided by MLB.TV.
Miami came into the series on a roll, having just swept the Washington Nationals in D.C. in a three-game series. But their bats went silent yesterday in the opener as the Marlins recorded just two hits en route to a 6-0 loss.
It is probably not going to get much easier for the Marlins against Rays starter Shane McClanahan today. McClanahan is 6-2 in 11 starts this season with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. He has been harder to hit on the road (OBA .178 to .189 at home), where he is 1-2 in five starts with a 2.96 ERA.
As for Miami, the Marlins appear to be going with a bullpen day with reliever Lake Bachar to start the day. Bachar has been great at home, where he has a 1.88 ERA in nine appearances (14 1/3 innings) and a .106 OBA. Miami’s pen has a 3.61 ERA on the season with a 1.21 WHIP and a .200 OBA.

I don’t know why the public has hammered the OVER for this game. Tampa Bay has a solid starting pitcher on the mound to start the day. Miami’s opener pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings in his last appearance, and the Marlins' bullpen has a top ten ERA. The Rays hit the ball well yesterday, but neither team has hit well over the last week; both have hit under .200. Eight is not a big number, but I see no reason to expect much offense in today’s game.
