Once again, the Tigers showed what a true team is all about in the first game of the series against the Rays and why no one has won more games than them in the American League. The Tigers had a 9-hit day; with the exception of Torres and Sweeney, every player had at least one hit. They hit three home runs on Monday, Báez hitting the first with Dingler on board, and in the seventh inning, Keith hit his seventh home run, as did McKinstry, to extend the lead to 5-1.

On the pitching front, the Tigers once again brought in reliever Will Vest to get the final three outs. He has been highly effective this season, pitching 40 innings and striking out 44 with a 2.25 ERA. But the Tigers' entire pitching system seems to be working, and even better when they pitch in Detroit. On Monday, Montero earned his fourth win and pitched six one-run innings.

Flaherty will be pitching for the Tigers in Tuesday's game against the Tigers. Flaherty is perhaps the weakest link in the Tigers' rotation with a 4.84 ERA. Pepiot will be the Rays' pitcher.
