The Boston Red Sox will host the Tampa Bay Rays in the 1st of a doubleheader this afternoon. It will begin their 4-game set and be the 1st series for each since the All-Star break.
Boston headed into the break in impressive style. They rode a 9-game winning streak and have put themselves firmly in the hunt for a wildcard spot. Something not many expected just less than a month ago. During their winning streak, their pitching was phenomenal. They held their opponents to an average of just 1.5 runs per game. Jake Bennett will be tasked with keeping the pitching momentum going for Boston today.
The Rays were not as successful as the Red Sox as they headed into the break, but they were still playing solid ball. They had won 4 of their last 6 and won both of their last 2 series. Their bats are not going to have an easy time against Bennett and the solid Sox bullpen, but their starter, Griffin Jax, is sure to keep them in this game. He is coming off a 5-inning win over the Mariners in his last start. He allowed just 1 run on 4 hits in that win.
