The Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Nashville Predators, and there are now signs that the Lightning are starting to figure things out. Tampa Bay has won back-to-back games, and the second one was against Vegas with no rest. Granted, the Lightning were are home both nights, but still, sweeping a back-to-back is always a good sign for a team.
What’s even more clear is that Tampa Bay is going to win or lose with defense, as the offense has not been doing its job. The Lightning have managed two goals or less in five of their past six games, and every game has been decided by a goal. That speaks to the uncertainty betting on Tampa Bay: the game is never truly safe until the final seconds of the contest.

Nashville doesn’t get enough pucks to the net and doesn’t cash in when it has an extra man on the ice. Obviously, that is not conducive to the Predators winning games or scoring many goals. The Predators are scoring on less than 10% of their power play chances, and things are not likely to get better with a Tampa penalty kill that’s succeeding better than 90% of the time.
In fact, both teams are strong on the penalty kill and weak on the power play, so Tampa’s propensity to go to the box probably isn’t going to mean that much. This game will be decided by 5-on-5 action, and it’s likely to come down to goaltending. With the Lightning having a rested Andrei Vasilevskiy likely going between the pipes, they have the edge.
