Nikita Kucherov and the Tampa Bay Lightning will look to make a statement against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night at Rogers Place.
Kucherov has been the hottest player in the NHL since the calendar was flipped, moving one point behind Edmonton’s Connor McDavid on the NHL's scoring charts. The opportunity to overtake McDavid in a head-to-head clash could serve as extra motivation for Kucherov on Saturday night.
The 2019 MVP has just recorded his 17th three-point game of the season, racking up four goals and four assists across the last two games. Tampa Bay has started a four-game road trip with dominant 6-2 wins over Seattle and Vancouver.
Meanwhile, Edmonton is set to complete a four-game homestand and will be hurting after losing the Stanley Cup Finals rematch to the Florida Panthers 4-0 on Thursday night. The homestand began with wins over Nashville and San Jose, but it’s now back to square one for McDavid and his crew.
It’s been another season full of defensive woes for Kris Knoblauch’s team. Only four teams have a poorer defensive record than the Oilers, who are allowing 3.37 goals per game. Knowing this, Kucherov could be licking his lips when he heads on the ice on Saturday.
