The Detroit Red Wings (13-10-1) and the Tampa Bay Lightning (14-7-2) will meet for the 2nd time this season on Friday afternoon. Detroit took the 1st game 2-1 back in October after Dylan Larkin scored the game-winning goal in overtime.
Detroit has been consistently inconsistent this month. They began things with a 2-4 mark and have since gone 3-3. They are coming into this game off back-to-back losses to the Devils and Predators. In those losses, they were outscored 10-6. The goals allowed have been an issue as they are now averaging 4.5 goals allowed over the last 5 games.
For Tampa Bay, things have gone swimmingly this month. They are 9-3 and have won 5 straight games. In those wins, they have allowed a total of just 6 goals. Part of the reason that they have been so successful in the goals allowed department has been their ability to kill off power plays. They rank 1st in that category with an 88.3% power play kill percentage.
In this rematch, it will not be easy for Detroit to pick up the repeat win with how well the Lightning are playing. They will likely need to grind it out just like they did in the previous meeting. Goals are likely to be tough to come by once again.
