The Buccaneers opened their season with a gutsy 23-20 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1. The Buccaneers overcame a three-point deficit late in the game as quarterback Baker Mayfield found rookie wideout Emeka Egbuka for the game-winning 24-yard TD pass. The Falcons still had an opportunity to send the game into overtime, but their kicker, Younghoe Koo, misfired a potential game-tying field goal kick from 44 yards as time expired. Mayfield covered 167 passing yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for a team-high 39 yards in the match.
The Texans dropped their first game of the season, bowing to the Los Angeles Rams, 9-14, in a defensive-oriented battle at Sofi Stadium. Quarterback CJ Stroud passed for 188 yards with no TD and one interception. Houston’s kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn scored all of Houston’s 9 points after going 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts. Matthew Stafford’s 13-yard TD pass to Davis Allen in the 12:28 mark of the third quarter, which put the Rams ahead 14-9, turned out to be the final scoring play of the match, as both teams tightened up their defense in the payoff period.

Mayfield dazzled in the Bucs’ win over the Falcons after throwing for 162 yards on 17 of 32 passing with three touchdowns.
Mayfield finished with a quarterback rating of 82.2, becoming one of the best-performing signal-callers in the opening week of the 2025 season.
