At the start of the season, no one would have imagined that, after nine home games, newly promoted Sunderland would remain undefeated. In fact, the Black Cats boast the fifth-best home record in the Premier League, but they will face a true test on January 1st when they host Manchester City.

The Black Cats were surprisingly solid against the Premier League elite: they drew against Aston Villa, defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and at the Stadium of Light, and, in addition to draws against Arsenal and Liverpool, beat Newcastle United 1-0.

However, on December 6th, they faced Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and Guardiola's men thrashed Sunderland with goals from Dias, Guardiola, and Foden. It's reasonable that City are the 1.44 favorites to beat Sunderland; the Citizens defeated the Black Cats in each of their last 8 encounters.
