The St. Louis Cardinals will go for a 3-0 sweep of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Wednesday following contrasting wins in the first two games. The Cards defeated the Angels 10-5 in Game 1 before edging them in Game 2, 7-5. In both games, St. Louis demonstrated clutch slugging with Nolan Arenado blasting a homer to spark an 8-run rally in the 7th inning of the series opener and Alec Burleson belting the tie-breaking homer also in the 7th inning of Game 2. With the pair of wins, the Cards improved to 12-13 on the road and 18-24 overall. Although they remain in the cellar of the NL Central standings, St. Louis has built some momentum on the back of their recent success. As for the Angels, the losing woes on their home field continue for them as they dropped to 5-16 at Angel Stadium. Los Angeles is also at the bottom of the AL West standings with a 15-28 slate, 8 games behind the division leader Seattle Mariners. Cardinals RHP Lance Lynn (1-1, 3.79 ERA with 38 strikeouts) is set to face off against Angels RHP Griffin Canning (1-4, 5.75 ERA with 29 strikeouts).
