Things have gone more than well for the Tigers in their opening series at Comerica Park, and this Sunday they'll be trying to sweep the Cardinals, a team they've historically dominated. Game 3 of this series will be Sunday's primetime game and will feature Kyle Leahy for St. Louis and Keider Montero for Detroit.

In Game 1, the Tigers, led by Valdez, blanked the Cardinals; in Game 2, Dustin Mayo had his second rough outing of the year. Torres and Carpenter attacked the red-haired St. Louis pitcher early to take a quick lead on Saturday. Flaherty had been pitching well but imploded in the fifth inning, where St. Louis rallied and scored 5 runs on a grand slam by Walker. Later, the Tigers, with home runs by Torres and Vierling, extended their lead in the game, which ended 11-6. Detroit lived up to its -165 odds favorite status in the pregame standings and will again be the favorite on Sunday to complete the sweep.

Leahy will take the mound for the Cardinals, making his second start of the year after allowing four earned runs in his first. He returned to the starting rotation for the first time in 2022; it was common to see him pitch many innings, but he pitched out of the bullpen in subsequent years.
