The Atlanta Braves (50-34, 25-15 Home) will host the St. Louis Cardinals (44-39, 21-18 Away) in the finale game of a three-game series today at Truist Park. Fans can tune into MLB.TV to follow the action once the game gets underway at 7:15 p.m. EST.
St. Louis took Game 1 of the series on Tuesday, winning 5-3. But the Braves bounced back with a solid 5-1 victory over the Redbirds yesterday.
Hurston Waldrep is scheduled to start for the Braves. However, while he is listed as a starting pitcher, he appeared in relief in his only appearance since getting called up. That came last week when he threw two shutout innings against the Giants in San Francisco. He is expected to work deeper into the game today, though.
As for the Cardinals, St. Louis is scheduled to give Dustin May the start. May is 5-6 in 15 starts with a 4.30 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. At home, he has gone 3-3 in eight starts (including one complete game) with a 3.94 ERA and a .243 OBA. He is practically a different pitcher in night games (4-0, 2.05 ERA, .199 OBA) than in day games (1-6, 6.81 ERA, .301 OBA).

I am not a Dustin May fan, but the results speak for themselves; teams just don’t score much off him when he’s pitching at night. Hurston Waldrep looked solid in his two-inning debut. If he were to struggle in extended innings today, he has the bullpen with the lowest ERA in baseball backing him up (2.77). So, I doubt either drastically underperforming lineup (both have hit well below .200 over the last week) will wake up in this game.
Consequently, we’ll have a low-scoring game here tonight.
