SC Braga survived an epic quarter-final, where they were the underdogs, but managed to eliminate one of the competition's top contenders, Real Betis, by coming from behind in the second leg to overturn a 2-0 deficit, win 4-2 in the second half, and advance to the semi-finals. Now, the Archbishops face a similarly demanding challenge when they host Bundesliga side Freiburg starting Thursday.
SC Braga enters the top 10 all-time list of clubs with the most Europa League appearances. However, despite reaching the 2011 final, which they lost to Porto, they have never lifted the trophy. This is their best opportunity to do so in their long history; this traditional club was founded in 1921.
The first leg of the semi-final will be played at the Municipal Stadium in Braga; a close tie is expected. German side Freiburg finished in the top eight of the league stage. They are usually strong at home in Europa-Park Stadion, but their away form has been poor, with only two wins in their last nine matches. Nevertheless, the "Black Forest Eleven" reached this round, like SC Braga, by defeating a Spanish team. Freiburg eliminated Celta Vigo in the quarterfinals with a 6-1 aggregate score.

SC Braga - Freiburg: Form Analysis
SC Braga lost to Santa Clara in the Portuguese league over the weekend, while Freiburg suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Dortmund in matchday 31 of the Bundesliga. These results clearly indicate that both teams had, and still have, their sights set on Thursday's match.
SC Braga and Freiburg have been holding back for Thursday.
The Archbishops won their quarter-final despite drawing against Real Betis at home. This time, they cannot afford to lose the first leg in Portugal. The numbers are on their side, as they have won 12 of their previous 16 European matches at home.
As for Freiburg, it's clear they have slowed down from their good form at the worst possible time; they recently lost in other semi-finals, the DFB-Pokal to Stuttgart, and in the Bundesliga, they suffered a crushing defeat against Dortmund that knocked them out. Freiburg finished in the top seven of the league, missing out on any European qualification with three matchdays remaining. In that sense, Freiburg desperately needs to win the Europa League to return to European competition, but the same is true for the Portuguese side.

SC Braga & Freiburg Squad Analysis
This season, things have worked particularly well in attack for both teams. For SC Braga, the frequent goalscorer has been Pau Victor, the well-known former Barcelona striker; his goal was instrumental in the comeback against Betis, and this season with the Archbishops he has 8 goals and 4 assists. But the experienced Ricardo Horta, with 18 goals and 14 assists, is also continuing one of his most productive seasons with the club he has played for since 2016/2017.
On the Freiburg side, Grifo has scored 4 goals and assisted 3. However, the player SC Braga's defense will have to be especially wary of is Japanese international striker Yuito Suzuki. He scored two goals against Celta Vigo at Balaídos, played 120 minutes in the German Cup semi-final, and was rested in the last league match.
Among the most talked-about absences, Brazilian midfielder Moscardo, who received a yellow card against Betis, will have to serve a suspension, while Jordy Makengo was out of the Freiburg-Dortmund game due to an injury.
