For the 2025 edition, the Leagues Cup will include all Liga MX teams and only 18 of the 30 MLS teams (those that qualified for the MLS Cup playoffs), for a total of 36 participating teams. The teams from each country will form groups of 18 with teams from their own league, but playing 3 matches against teams from the opposite league (by lottery). The top four from each group (Liga MX and MLS) will advance to the knockout phase, where four Mexicans and four Americans are guaranteed to play in the quarterfinals. These games will also take place in the United States and Canada.
