France (5-1) takes on Slovenia (3-3) for a FIBA World Cup Qualifying game on Thursday, August 27, at Bercy Arena in Paris, France.
The French and the Slovenians last faced in August 2025 during the FIBA EuroBasket tournament. Behind Sylvain Francisco's 32 points, the short-handed France escaped Luka Doncic and Slovenia, 103-95. In that win, France didn't field two of their main big men in Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert.
Plus, Slovenia had to rely heavily on Doncic's 39-point outburst but still lost the game. On Thursday, they'll play without Doncic, forcing them to miss out on the Los Angeles Lakers star's offensive brilliance.
Moreover, the addition of Wembanyama and Gobert in this qualifying window presents another challenge for the Slovenians. The French are in full force for the upcoming games, even adding Evan Fournier, Jaylen Hoard, Timothe Lumawu-Cabarrot, Maxime Raynaud, and Joel Ayayi, all with NBA credentials.
With Doncic out, Slovenia will turn to the likes of Ziga Smar, Klemen Prepelic, Gregor Glas, and Gregor Hrovat to keep in touch with France.
Slovenia is also coming off a disappointing one-point loss to Estonia last November. Meanwhile, France dominated in their game against Belgium, 79-63, in that same qualifying window.
