Learner Tien of the United States will test the mettle of former world’s No.1 Jannik Sinner of Italy in the men’s singles championship match of the 2025 China Open on Wednesday.

Tien booked his ticket to his first ATP main tour finals after rallying past Daniil Medvedev of Russia 5-7 7-5 4-0 ret. in their semifinal clash on Wednesday. Tien dropped the first set despite racing to an early 3-0 lead but the American rising star flipped the script in the second set, where he overcame a 0-3 deficit and forced a decider. Tien carried over his momentum into the third set, taking advantage of a cramping Medvedev to seize a 4-0 advantage. After being warned by the umpire for his lack of effort, Medvedev decided to retire from the match, giving Tien his second career win over the Russian. Tien has now won six of his last seven matches on the hard court, enhancing his 2025 hard-court record to 23-11.

Sinner advanced to his seventh ATP finals this year after staving off a spirited challenge from Alex De Minaur 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the semifinals. Although De Minaur won a set over Sinner for the first time after 20 sets, the former world’s No.1 still proved too strong in the end. The Italian dropped only one service game, punishing De Minaur with 50 points behind the first serves and three breakpoint conversions. With the victory, Sinner raised his 2025 hard-court record to 22-2.
