World’s No.1 Jannik Sinner of Italy will duke it out with Madrid Open champion Casper Ruud of Norway in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Rome Masters.
Less than 48 hours after passing his first test in Rome by beating Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina 7-6(2) 6-3, Sinner finds himself matched up against the reigning Madrid Open champion Casper Ruud. Sinner, who is playing in his first tournament since returning from a 3-month doping ban, scored 40 out of 60 first serves that connected. He added 15 more points off his second serves and captured 3 breakpoints to secure his entry into the quarterfinal round.
Ruud pushed his winning streak to 9 games as he posted his third straight-set win in the tournament against Jaume Munar Clar of Spain 6-3 6-4. Playing with fresh legs after his fourth-round opponent, Matteo Berrettini, retired due to an injury, Ruud dazzled on the red dirt, winning 25 points off his first serves and 22 off his second. A win over Sinner on Thursday will not only give Ruud his first career win over world’s No.1, it also propels the Norwegian to the semifinals of the Rome Masters.

Our Jannik Sinner vs Casper Ruud Prediction
Fearless Forecast: Casper Ruud beats Jannik Sinner for the first time
Reasons why Casper Ruud will claim his first win vs. Jannik Sinner: Ruud is 0-3 head-to-head against the world’s No.1, but Thursday’s quarterfinal match in Rome will be the first time he will get to play Sinner on his favorite surface. Sinner remains in terrific form despite playing in his first tournament after three months away from the tour. However, the match against Ruud will require Sinner to be sharper and focused because the Norwegian is also in a tip-top shape, holding an 8-match win streak and coming off a title in Madrid. Sinner is an all-around genius. However, on clay, Sinner isn’t as dominant as he was on hard court. The Italian only has a 67.7 percent win rate on clay and is still seeking his first major title on the red dirt after coming up short in big clay-court tournaments in the past. Ruud, meanwhile, is a two-time French Open runner with a 70 percent win rate on clay.
Our betting prediction for Jannik Sinner vs. Casper Ruud: Casper Ruud will win.
