Ben Shelton of the United States goes for another Grand Slam semifinal appearance on Wednesday, facing the world’s No.1 and 3-time Major champion Jannik Sinner of Italy, at Center Court.

Shelton returned to the quarterfinals stage of a Grand Slam event after defeating Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 3-6 6-1 7-6(1) 7-5. The American lost a set for the first time in the tournament, but that did not stop him from punching his ticket to the round of 8, where he’s set to take on the gargantuan task of upsetting world’s No.1 Jannik Sinner. Shelton connected 60 percent of his first serves, winning 56 points while adding 31 more off the second serves. He also broke Sonega four times and fired 8 aces.

Sinner was on the brink of a monumental collapse in his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov. However, the Italian still managed to advance to the next round after a pectoral injury forced the Bulgarian to retire while leading 6-3, 7-5, 2-2. It was a heartbreaking loss for Dimitrov, who had had a real shot at pulling off the most significant upset in this year’s Wimbledon Open until the injury ruined his plans. Meanwhile, Sinner escaped defeat, but the top Italian netter insisted there was no reason to celebrate the win since it came at the expense of Dimitrov’s injury.
