The Blue Jays just lost a painful Game 1, which they should have capitalized on against the Mariners in the ALCS, especially since Toronto was coming off a -165 favorite to win Game 1 due to Seattle's long road trip, which also saw them play a long 15-inning game to close out the division series against the Tigers. Even so, the Jays lost, losing home-field advantage, and were unable to capitalize on a solid start from starter Gausman.

The Blue Jays' bats didn't put together a home run performance anywhere near the size of the one they had in the division series against the Yankees. So far, in the first game of the series against the Mariners, they've only managed two hits. They will undoubtedly face one of the best starting rotations in the MLB, Seattle's. Miller already gave them their first taste of dominance from the mound, pitching 6.0 out of pure dominance, allowing only one earned run, and reliable Mexican closer Andrés Muñoz got the final three outs, all in order, to close out the game.

Now the Mariners have the homefield advantage. Game 2, moreover, looks to be more evenly matched in the betting game with odds of -135, again favoring the Jays. Shneider has chosen to rely again on the rookie pitcher he preferred over the veterans Scherzer and Bassitt, instead trusting Yesavage, the same one who struck out 11 Yankees in the Division Series.
