The AL-West-leading Seattle Mariners will fly all the way across the country to face the Tampa Bay Rays this week at Tropicana Field. Seattle made a big roster move heading into this series, bringing back Jorge Polanco after his near-month-long IL stint caused by a hamstring injury. The Mariners bench believes Polanco can provide a spark to an offense in need of some juice, as their batting stats sit amongst the lowest in the entire country. Part of their drought is due to the surprising lack of firepower from preseason MVP hopeful Julio Rodriguez, who has mustered just 7 home runs all season after hitting 60 in 2023. Experts argue it is the non-fastballs that are giving him the most trouble, something we can assume his batting coaches will have noticed also. But maybe his contributions are overrated, as Seattle is still leading the division despite his struggles.
